Scott was born in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, but has lived more than half of his life here in Minnesota. He came to Minnesota to go to college and attended Bethel College for two years where he met his wife, Leigh, in Calculus Class. He graduated from William Carey College in Hattiesburg, MS with a degree in History and Political Science, and also has a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the College of Science and Engineering at the University of Minnesota and a Master of Divinity degree from United Theological Seminary of the Twin Cities.
He was ordained by the Presbytery of the Twin Cities Area in 1992 and has served as a hospital chaplain, a nursing home chaplain, a hospice chaplain, and as a parish pastor. He took a long sabbatical from the practice of pastoral ministry to raise his three children—Beryl, Abby, and Drew. As Beryl came closer to graduating from college, and Drew and Abby came closer to graduating from high school, he experienced a renewed call to ministry which eventually led him to Shakopee’s First Presbyterian Church.
He currently resides in Bloomington, MN, where he has lived for the past 25 years. He enjoys building boats and sailing them too. However, somehow he has spent more time building them than actually sailing them! He also enjoys traveling to see his daughters who are both on the East Coast.
